BACKGROUND://

Haruhi Suzumiya used to be a happy, normal girl living in Japan. She loved her life; she thought all the happenings with her family and her friends were special and interesting.

However, that all changed when she and her family went to a baseball game when she was in elementary school. Once she saw the stadium, she was shocked at how many people were present. When she realized that they were only a fraction of the whole population in Japan alone, she became discouraged. She felt like just a drop in the ocean-her prized experiences would just be considered ordinary compared to everything else that was going on in Japan. So until she graduated, she felt disheartened with her own life-she was sure that there was someone out there in the world who was living a truly extraordinary life-why couldn't it be herself?

Once she entered middle school, she was tired of waiting for something exciting to happen to her so she tried to seek out interesting people by herself and developed an extreme interest and enthusiasm towards the supernatural. Haruhi earned a pretty weird reputation. She became infamous for doing such things like painting hieroglyphs on the school grounds using a field marker, moving the desks from the classrooms into the halls, painting stars on the roof, sticking a bunch of talismans around the school. She also became popular with the boys, considering her looks, but rejected every boy that tried to date her-in a period of time from five minutes to a week, saying that she was not interested in "boring humans."

When Haruhi first introduced herself in high school, she shocked her classmates-in a humorous way to most of them-by stating that she was "not interested in ordinary humans," but invited any aliens, time travelers, sliders, or espers that might dwell in the school to join her.

A few days later, her classmate in homeroom who sat in front of her, nicknamed only "Kyon," was the first to engage her in a conversation, asking if all of the stuff in her introduction was true. Haruhi dismissed him, saying that because he is an ordinary human, she didn't want to talk to him. However, he still persisted somewhat, and that led to her actually replying to him and maybe, taking some interest in him as they continued to have a conversation each day, as he was the only one in the class she'd ever talk to.

Being bored by the other clubs and extracirricular activites in the school, Haruhi started to make her own club: the SOS Brigade, which starts for "Spreading excitement all Over the world with Suzumiya Haruhi Brigade." She "voluntarily arrested" its members: Kyon, whom she forces to do all the work for her; Nagato Yuki, a stoic girl who was the only member of the Literary Club (whose room the SOS Brigade was using and was the only one not "voluntarily arrested"); Asahina Mikuru, a cute yet timid second-year; Koizumi Itsuki, a mysteriously always-smiling "mysterious transfer student." Haruhi decided that the club's purpose would be to solve mysteries and seek out all things out of the ordinary. However, its real purpose seems to be to study Haruhi and keep her from being bored.

What Haruhi doesn't know is that she herself has powers that allow her to manipulate reality. Those powers are triggered by her emotions or her desires. Since she wanted to find aliens, time travelers, and espers that same three years ago, she was the one who caused the alteration in the course of the universe. That alteration was brought to the attentions of aliens, time travelers, and espers themselves.

There was the Integrated Data Entity, a "being" of data that had accumulated enough data so that it gained consciousness. It contained lifeforms that are non-physical yet intelligent, and grows with the addition of more data. They had noted an explosion of data coming from Japan and concluded that it came from Haruhi Suzumiya, and sent two "humanoid interfaces", Nagato Yuki and Asakura Ryoko, to observe her. They consider Haruhi as a means for auto-evolution, the first technological singularity to appear in the universe.

There were also time travelers from a distant future, who found out that Haruhi was a crack in the time-space continuum, because she had caused a "timequake" that rendered any time-travelling impossible after the three years before. They sent Asahina Mikuru back in time to investigate Haruhi.

Lastly, there was the Agency, an association of espers, humans who have ESP abilities suddenly from that event. They are aware that Haruhi could create closed spaces, sections of alternate reality that could replace the real world unless the espers intervene. Some of the members of the Agency consider Haruhi as some sort of deity.

Ironically, Haruhi is oblivious to the existence of aliens, time travellers, and espers right in front of her face, and all would consider it a risky situation if they were to reveal themselves.

Haruhi treats all of her club members like objects, used to further her purpose. She choose them based on the archetypes she sees in stories where something strange happens-Yuki is the "token silent character", Mikuru is the club mascot and provides the "moe factor," and like above, Itsuki is the transfer student. Aside from their club-related activities, she doesn't seem to have much of a relationship with Yuki, with the latter being so silent, nor with Itsuki as well. Haruhi usually exploits Mikuru's sex appeal to make her club known, such as dressing up Mikuru in various outfits (like a bunny girl, a maid, a cheerleader, etc.) herself, not to mention blackmail as well. However, her relationship with Kyon implies something more. He is like the Benedick to Haruhi's Beatrice; he is the only one who can convince her to not do something she wants to do, and when she began to create a new world Kyon was the only one who was there, implying that he was the only one she wanted to be with, and the world only returned back to normal again once he kissed her.

PERSONALITY://

In one word, Haruhi is simply unpredictable.
She has a more discouraged side, in which she is snide and cold to others, but in reality she's extremely energetic, outgoing, and spontaneous. She is almost manic in her pursuit of the supernatural, and is ruthless in getting what see wants-one time, she sets up a situation where the Computer Society President looks like he was sexually harassing Mikuru as to blackmail (and when the rest of the Computer Society says that they will stand up for their President, Haruhi even goes so far to say that she will extend her blackmail story by saying that the Computer Society gang-raped Mikuru!). She's exceedingly bossy and has quite a temper-especially when things go her way. Haruhi doesn't care what anyone thinks of her, like not minding changing in the classroom even when the boys are still in there, and changing Mikuru into various outfits herself. Haruhi has a heavy competitive and jealous streak as well, and won't settle for anything less than the extraordinary and the best. She's actually very clever and very talented (described as smart and atheletic), and it seems that she also has a vulnerable side as well, one that she seems uncomfortable in showing others, such as when the band ENOZ thanks her for standing in for the sick lead singer and helping them, Haruhi shows a bit of awkwardness.

Not really an item...but her ability to bend reality. xD; Even though I could propose that it could start an amusing special event, I'm sure overall that would be complicated if she was able to actually keep it.
